Our Island vacations
Upstairs are 2 carpeted bedrooms finished in hand trowled plaster and prime Western Red Cedar with windows overlooking the International Rift, trimmed in the cabins signature maple wood. Each bedroom has a very comfortable Queen sized bed, topped with lighthouse throws to snuggle under for a quick nap. Tucked under the eaves, a ‘Captains bunk’ single also shares each bedroom.
For your convenience, there is a glass vessel sink and vanity in each room with all amenities (blow dryers, curling irons, etc.) The pine cone motif, full-length lined curtains and colorful patchwork quilts create a cozy retreat. The Adirondack styled cabin sleeps a maximum of 6 people. For a night of star gazing, there is the availability of trundle beds on the screened porch.
With secluded views of the St Lawrence Islands National Park shores and a back door leading to the deck and BBQ, your kitchen is a cooks dream. Its maple cabinetry, custom Marinace granite counters and a sea of stainless appliances make it ready for any chef. It boasts an electric range/oven with a designer stainless hood, refrigerator/freezer with icemaker, Bosch dish washer, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker and trash compactor. Also provided is a reverse osmosis water filtration system, stainless cooking utensils, a vast array of spices, and complete dinner/glassware. For your laundry needs, a front load washing machine and dryer are in a closet.
The focal piece of the 135 year old hand hewn log cabin is the massive native pink granite fireplace and its screen of pine boughs (hand forged by the owner while in residence in France). The main room is also enhanced by the hand troweled plaster ceiling and aged beams. Todays needs are met by satellite TV, DVD, telephone, CD stereo system, and island wide WIFI. For readers, access the vast selection of books in the built in bookcase, and enjoy the comfy seating.
With seating for 6 people, dine at the large custom cherrywood/burl table with its Adirondack styled rustic chairs, place mats, tablecloths and candles. Be sure to bring champagne to toast the view from the large picture window overlooking the Rift narrows to Lake of the Isles.
All windows are double glazed, maple finished and decorated with custom buckskin window dressings. Fox pelt hides, snowshoes and hand forged accessories by the owner on the hand-hewn log walls add to its rustic décor. The floors are finished with oversized rust slate throughout the downstairs. The natural maple log and branch staircase is a work of art in itself, created by a Canadian artisan.
There is a 9 x 24 foot fully enclosed screened-in porch with seating and a Victorian styled daybed with trundle bed. Step out of the kitchen, and enjoy the large deck with built in seating. Down the stairs and along the flagstone path is the supersized, stainless steel barbecue and granite food prep counter. Under the pines, are Adirondack chairs and a table for cocktails while river watching. Nowhere on the island are you without a full river view.
